MARKET COMMENTARYOctober 14, 2001 - Sunday night Friday's market action on the QQQs was virtually sideways--though violent. I think we are still looking for a move to 35.75, where there is resistance from August 30. Cracking through that resistance would likely ask for a retest from the other side, and then a move to the 49-52 range. Our long-term model went long at the close on Friday, but the short-term models are still short. Almost any action to the upside will turn the short-term models long as well. The S&P 500 long-term chart has a trendline from August 2000 that will act as a magnet, pulling prices upward into the 1125-50 range before it sees any resistance. The Dow will probably use 9250 as support and create a range trading scenario between there and 9960 on the long-term model. As for the short-term players, we've been seeing an Average True Range of about 50 points per day recently, so I would expect a move to 9400 on Monday.
